Have you ever had the need to spell a word, perhaps your name, over the phone? How did you go about doing that? Chances are that you were talking with a native English speaker. How you spell a word over the phone or even your name for daily use is not of great importance, I believe. But if you are not used to spelling over the phone, it can be daunting and you may feel embarrassed by the words you use or by struggling to find any word at all for a particular letter.

"X" for example.

Say that your name is "Xavier", not the most common name amongst names but still if it's your name, you somehow want to find words that represent each of the letters of your name, quickly. There are also a lot of Chinese names that start with an X. For example, Xiao Chen, Xiao Hong, Xing Xing, etc.

So, it might be important for you to learn all the words that are used internationally so that you don't have to think long before you know how to spell your own name or that you don't have to use words you learnt in kindergarten which may be perceived as silly or stupid by native English speakers. That will make your English communication easier and you will feel good and confident about yourself.

Therefore I have made a professional voice recording that you can listen to in order to practise the pronunciation of all the words used for spelling according to the NATO phonetic alphabet (or ICAO spelling alphabet used in aviation, between pilots and the control tower) and memorise them.

If you found this helpful, please tap the heart shape at the top to like this post.

Bedankt!
